Riding the new Pulsar, is an interesting experience after having ridden the older model just before that. There are some important and interesting cosmetic changes which I’ll come to later. But right now, lets talk about the more important bits which will surely add to the riding experience a lot more.
The gearbox – silken smooth. Knife thru hot butter, call it what you will, but its the slickest gearbox I have seen. And after having ridden the earlier Pulsars you’d be forgiven for thinking Bajaj stole someone else’s gearbox! Shifts are very clean, precise. No judders, false neutrals.
Power delivery is very linear, although this author felt that Power wasnt coming with the hurry that one is used to on the older Pulsar – maybe it was just need for running-in on the test bike.
The engine has, I’m sorry to note, a very weak note(no pun intended). You can hardly hear it at times – which can be good sometimes, but wouldn’t you wanna hear your baby screaming as you rev it up? I sure would!
The suspension seemed better. The bike’s slightly heavier – about 4 kilos or so which might have helped matters just a wee bit.
Looks. The new fairing looks all the more aggressive. The tail-light is very unique, but looks kinda wimpy, and if my experience is any guide, one cant really see it, if one’s in a taller vehicle. The illumination of the tail lamps is lovely.
The digital speedo looks great with orange backlight, but unfortunately the idiots that they are, folks at Khivraj have disconnected the speedo cable – but NOT the rev-counter cable. So one could see the revs going up, but nothing on the very good-looking dash!
On the whole, a better bike indeed, although one hopes the note of the older(2005) model can either be retained or re-introduced on this model!

Update: The Pulsar 200 DTSi is reviewed here
Hi,
Just two weeks before I’ve purchased Pulsur 180cc (latest one with digital meter).
Since then I’ve calculated its mileage 2 times which came out be 31 km/hr (in City condition), which is highly embarassing. Even though I never ride the bike above 45 km/hr speed.
When I ask the showroom guys from where I have purchased the bike regarding this issue, they were initially speechless, but afterwards started giving suggestion about the riding conditions.
I wrote to Bajaj Auto but no response from them.
I regret that I should have taken karzima if Pulsur 180 has to give such a low average.
If anyone has any comments, he/she can reach me at nsandeep@hcl.in.
Thanking You,
Sandeep Nagar
Sandeep,
Couple of things – Your bike’s very new – are you riding it as you should? The speed’s okay.. but really are you changing the gears as you should? I cud hit 75kmph on my ’05 Pulsar while running-in, but because I followed Bajaj’s recommended pattern I used to get 48kmpl. I see no reason why you shouldnt.
If you havent, maybe you should read the user manual?
Also, comparing the bikes on just the average is rubbish. For the extra cost that a Karizma entails one could probably buy a year’s worth of petrol – even given the same average(which IMO, is not true).
My bike now gives me around 35ish but thats because I do ride it hard – rev it till 7,8,9,10ks even at times. And with such riding I expect it.
cheers
Yaar i am a little on weather to buy a Karizma or pulsar 180 the new varian … i havent seen the vehicle to closely but my question to u is…. IS IT Actually different from the previous Pulsars… and cna u also tell me the prize
i agree with sukhi.
average of a bike depends a lot on the way we drive
i myself own a pulsar 180 with black styling (not the new one with digital meters).
if i ride it in within a top speed of 60 -70, with smooth accleration, i get a constant average of 50-55 KMPL. impressive , isnt it.
and even if i take it to 80 – 100 KMPH, with very hard accaleration, i still get 45-50 KMPL. which is very good for me.
i really feel bad for sandeep that he is not getting a good average. maybe you just wait for your first service and see if things get better for u.
some things which you can check
1. both the spark plugs are working fine.
2. tyre pressure is optimium.
3. dont drive the bike in 2nd and 3rd gear for
longer times.
4. Use Indian oil Extra premium petrol. Its the
best petrol for P180.
Prabhu,
I am in a dilemma on whether I shud tell you to read the post again!
And the Prize? No Idea man. The Price though, is apparently similar to the former 180. On buying a bike, first decide ur usage before asking for opinions on what to buy.
Siju
agree with you mostly, not on the fuel front though – filling at a good pump shud probably equate to filling premium/speed/ higher octane fuel elsewhere.
hey immediate launching of models is too bad!!!i purchased a pulsar 150 i month b4 but new model is being launched which irritates me alot!!! can i get my pulsar’s speedometer to b converted into the newer digital one???

Hi guys plz guide me.
i am going to buy a bike either cbz xtreme or pulsar wid digital speedometer.plz tell which one is the best in all respect.
i am totally confused dat which one should i buy.
If the light switch is on prior to starting the digital meter will not light. You have to switch them off and then put them on.
I am agree with Dipankar. Head Light of digital pulsar is not working properly. I am also owner of the same pulsar and many of friends faced same problem that at night when head lamp works properly then meter doesn’t or vice-versa
IS THE NEW PULSAR-180 REALLY AS GOOD LOOKING AS PPL CLAIM IT TO BE????? IT DEFINITELY LOOKED HOT WHEN I SAW IT FOR THE FIRST TIME… MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE OLD ONE… BUT THEN AFTER THREE MONTHS OF CRITICAL ANALYSIS I FEEL THAT THE NEW ONE ISN’T ALL THAT GOOD.. WHAT SAY YOU GUYS..?? I KNOW THE OWNERS OF THE NEW MACHINE WON’T AGREE ONE BIT TO WHAT I SAY…..
WHY NOT DO A COMPARITIVE STUDY(WITH RESPECT TO LOOKS ONLY) BETWEEN P-180 V2 AND V3.???
I FEEL THE EXTENDED RAZOR LIKE TAIL OF THE NEW 180 DOESN’T GO WELL WITH ITS BULKY TANK…. IT LOOKS KINDA OUT OF PLACE… THE CLEAR TAIL LIGHTS AND INDICATORS SUCK….COLOURED GLASSES ON THE INDICATORS AND THE TAIL LIGHT WOULD’VE BEEN BETTER…. THE NEW DIGITAL METER LOOKS SPORTY AND UNIQUE BUT DOES THAT MAKE IT BETTER THAN THE OLD ONE..?? I FEEL THAT THE ANALOG DIAL LOOKS MORE CLASSY…. THE ONLY THING THATS MAKIN PEOPLE LIKE THIS ONE MORE THAN THE OLD ONE IS BECAUSE ITS DIFFERENT FROM THE OLD ONE AND DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BIKES AS WELL… ONE OR TWO YRS DOWN THE LINE WHEN PPL GET USED TO THIS NEW LOOK THEY’LL DEFINITEY SAY THAT THE OLD ONE LOOKED MUCH BETTER….
shubham,
Yes, you can. It will cost u some, I suppose. I’d say enquire with your dealer.
ajinkya,
I havent ridden the new CBZ (Xtreme), so wouldnt be able to comment on it. But most of the Auto mags are plumping for the Bajaj Pulsar, and you should go for it – especially because the Pulsar’s already proven.
vikas,
I for one agree. The extended razor tail doesnt really gel well, kinda upsets the balance that was best on the V2. But that’s how it is. The new bike is smoother where the older one was rough – except in the looks front.
I do hope Bajaj moves to a whole new look for the next edition Pulsars – and gives the premium variants a different look, not just subtle extras!
Sukhi
Yup the new 180 is much smoother than the old one…. Have the reduced the engine BHP???? An employee at Bajaj showroom told me about this but i’m not very sure… Bajaj has changed the gearbox and the new gearbox is supposed to be better but even this new gearbox is experiencing false neutrals(as told to me by a frnd of mine who recently bought a new 180 blue).
I saw an old pulsar-150 with karizm’s tail… It was lookin damn good…. I’m plannin to get a karizma tail for my bike as well…. Does hero honda sell it over the counter???
shubham
You can get the digital speedometer for your bike but that will cost a lot as the whole circuiit will have to be replaced. If you’re ready to pay then bajaj folks will do it for you….
Hi guys,

plz tell me the colours of pulsar
Hi Folks,
I have a problem. I bought a Pulsar 180 2 months ago. However, during the runin period, my bike was handled by 3 people (my roommates), who didn’t take too much caution with sudden acceleration and high speeds. The condition now is that the pickup is screwed and it makes strange noise. I need to get it serviced, but the Khivraj Bajaj in Indranager, Bangalore is not a good place. Can someone suggest a real good service station for this where I can get this fixed.
Thanks
Recently rode the digital pulsar 150- pros: Silky gearbox, precise throttle response, good ride and handling, digital meter.
Cons: Found seat very hard & handle bar actually short- might cause backaches during long rides.
biker… i have been giving my p180 to khivraj (main – on kasturba road). it’s ok but not great – right now i finished 2 free services with 1 more to go. one place i can suggest is castrol bike zones – they have them all over. honestly i don’t know exactly how good they are but it was a suggestion because of the ads.
2 places i can definitely suggest as being good from personal experience:
1) motoxone – kamanahalli main road. there is a bajaj service center. opposite to that is a small lane where you can find motoxone on the right.
2) mechanix – koramangala. if you stand in front of k’mangala bda complex on the main shanti sagar road there is a road on the left. go down the road. keep following it, it will twist and turn a bit. then you’ll come to a cross and a park on the side. still keep on the road, you’ll come to a kabab magic on the left. somewhere around there on the left is a small lane where you will find mechanix.
how do i use the tripmeter in pulsar 180?
i cnt set the tripmeter to 0?
im having new p-180 with digital console.
I think there’s a button on the dash (black button) which lets u set tripmeter to 0. that should work, rohit.
Brijesh
Want to ride on the bike for long? Try the new 200 or the 180. Review of 200 is here
Biker,
Try Auto Service in Banashankari, thats where I get my 180 serviced. And it performs awesome once I get it worked upon by them

about the trip meter – you need to press the reset button for 5 secs before it resets. it’s something that is mentioned in the manual but i didn’t read it (:B) then the mechanic told me!

Hi guys.. Well i am quite impressed by some of the comments about the Pulsar.
I would like to know from you all one thing. I am planning to buy a bike mostly pulsar but could not decide whether i should go for 180 or 200.
I require a very competent bike with a decent mileage and power
Please suggest …
I want to buy Bajal Pulsar 150cc. Will I get the older version ,prior to digital one?
Also let me know if Unicorn or Apache are better than Pulsar?
CBZ is better choice than bajaj.Don’t go only one thing that is milage. But great pick up and looks matter, very few will go for this. I also ride on bajaj pulsar 180 but no comparison with cbz extreme.Live E-Treme…………..
hi,
i have a bajaj wind-125. I want the best designer in bangalore to modify my bike. Cost is not a factor, all i want is best looks and good power. Can anybody help me with these?
Charanjyot,
such spamming will *not* be tolerated again.
hi sukhi,
You are angry on my comment but i don’t want to hurt you .In reality i beat bajaj bulsar 180cc and 200cc very badly by my cbz star and cbz extrem(between race with my friends and many people). That’s why always in favour of cbz star, cbz extreme and karizma. And for your kind information Hero Honda in india’s first two wheeler company, where as i didn’t heard about rank of bajaj .
Charanjyot,
The policy on this blog (which I co-own) is that spamming is not tolerated. Neither is obscene comments. I was(am) just laying it out to you.
I am extremely sorry that I overestimated your intellect by leaps and bounds.
FYI, HHMI is NOT India’s first 2 wheeler company. HHMI is India’s LARGEST – big difference between the two.
Read up Indian Biking history(while at that, English and Communication would be good too).
haha thats what i call PWNAGE!
charanjyot, what else? does your cbz also beat RDs? what about R1s & busas? i bet it does!
hi guys..

Guys…
i want to know the price of bajaj pulsar 180 c.c bike in 2006. wht wud have been the show room price for a new bike? please let me know.
Bajaj pulsar DTSi 150 CC sucks..
I have bought this bike around 1.5 year ago.Things went pretty fine initially without any problem..But now after around 1.5years or so.I am realizing that kind of quality used in making Pulsar sucks..Its silencer is rusted completely…Now i have to invest around 5k…one of my friend also faced the same problem.Indicator sucks big time… and the kind of material used in making them is probably i think the worst..a small thrust is enough to break your indicator into two pieces..Gear shifting is genuine problem with all the Pulsar and Bajaj couldnt able to fix this problem yet..Probably there are many more problem with Pulsar which i will come to know later. So, in all Pulsar sucks big time in long run..Better opt for some others bike if you don’t want to waste your money on Bike after two years or so….
And recently i went to Bajaj showroom to know the cause of the problem.
They told me that i have to change the Pulsar Engine..
apache RTR is better than 180 pulsars.it has got the same perfomance.and better mileage(55-60)
Hi Sandi,
I completely agree with what Sukhi had to say about the riding condition of the bike when it is new. One should strictly follow the recommended steps by the manufacturer. I too own P180 2006, black (Prev version with regular analog meter), Believe it or not, my bike gives me Unbeatable mileage of 51KMPL in city and attractive 56-57 KMPL on Highways. It is just because I strictly follow the steps provided by the manufacturer. Hence I would suggest you to have your bike service by some good mechanic, then maintain it. Please note that your bike should be serviced after every 2500Km. Please revert for any clarification.
Hi Guys,
I see a lot of comments on how good or bad pulsar is. Trust me, being an Indian, I should say, creativity is the first thing on Designer’s minds in Bajaj. Very aesthetically built 200CC pulsar or 150 or 180, I can tell you with confidence , the set the ball rolling. Having said that Hero Honda has done a good job with the eninne but the sense of being futuristic is very much missing and it’s very apparent. A Pulsar 200
futuristic and will stay for 3 year for hero honda to come anywhere closer in terms of design and creativity..way to go
can u tell me the price of pulsar 180DTSi on road and how is the bike and the mileage

Thanks In advance
Yuz,
you should be able to get one from Bajaj yourself. What city do you live in?
hi,
I am in Bangalore.
I want to modify my Pulsar 200 Jan2008 model to look like Hayabusa Suzuki GSX1300R. With single head lamp. I dont want anything from engine till silencer to be disturbed. I just want a similar look but dont want to have adjustment in engine as i am getting a mileage of 45kmpl which is highest i ve heard of. So what are the modifications that can be done and is there any garage in Mysore or Bangalore where i can get it modified.

hello guys!!!!!!!!, anyone would pls suggest me which bike to take, i planning to take P180cc or P200cc, will pls anyone suggest me on this, with future prespective p180cc would be better i thnk so, bcoz P200cc din’t have a kick and it will give problems during rainy and winter season. If anyone is using P200cc from past two or one year, then pls do suggest me on this, ur suggestion will be a deciding one!
I own a pulsar150 analog.but gear shift is like new model.I had the option of digital/analog the time i bought the bike. but i went for analog bcz pulsar tank design only matches with the old tail.and the complete design is a “FINISHED” job.And those who owns the old design with new gear shifts will say “yes we are lucky” not to have false neutrals and a good finished muscular giant(coz i say it always).
